When you are craving a nice juicy steak, there can be no substitute. No matter what else may be on the menu, it will not be good enough unless it is a nice chunk of red meat cooked with the perfect steak seasoning.
I know that feeling very well, which is why I always have a couple of great sirloin steak recipes handy for such an occasion.
Of all the ways that you can cook a steak, one of the top sirloin steak recipes uses a slow cooker crock pot and the results are nothing short of amazing!
If you have never tried slow cooker steak before, you are in for a treat! Once you try this crockpot steak with a side of buttery mashed potatoes and brown gravy mix, you will never look back. Try the brown gravy from my brown gravy hamburger steak recipe!
Great Things About a Slow Cooker Sirloin Steak
After years of making steak either on a grill, in a skillet, or as a stir fry, I must admit I was a bit skeptical when I came across this crock pot sirloin steak method in a book full of slow cooker recipes. If you’re still skeptical, you might try my recipe for sirloin tip steak!
However, ever since that first time, I have prepared sirloin steak in the way countless times, and here are some of the things I have come to love about this recipe:
- You simply let the slow cooker do all the work for you by throwing in all the ingredients and relaxing with a good book
- If you can’t be bothered with side dishes, this crock pot sirloin steak recipe will give you a complete meal-in-one
- No words can prepare you for how tender and juicy for sirloin steak will be after an entire day in the slow cooker

Different Cuts of Beef and Steak
Before we get on with the recipe, let us look deeper at the different cuts of beef to better understand what sirloin steak is all about.
When cutting up a beef carcass, you get, more or less, nine different cuts, which are the chuck, brisket, rib, plate, shank, short loin, sirloin, round, and flank.
Some cuts produce very tough meat, such as the chuck, while others provide the best and most tender cuts, such as the brisket.
Sirloin steak is not as tender as brisket but close enough that by the time it comes out of the slow cooker it will be ready to melt in your mouth!
Mashed Potatoes Are the Perfect Side Dish!
I have had many occasions where I have served crock pot sirloin steak on its own without any sides and it worked out great.
However, if I feel I must have a side, my usual go-to side dish is a simple mashed potatoes and gravy recipe.
Mashed potatoes and steak have been served hand-in-hand for eons and that is not likely to change any time soon. Other sides you can try include:
- Salad
- Boiled peas
- White rice
- Green beans
- Dinner rolls
- Boiled or sautéed veggies
- Pasta
- Baked sweet potatoes
Equipment
The simplicity of this crockpot steak recipe is reflected by the fact that you only need two pieces of equipment; a slow cooker and a measuring cup. That’s it!

Important Things To Remember
As you can see, this is a very easy recipe. Just remember the following tips next time you decide you feel like having a pot roast:
- Use the non-stick cooking spray to avoid having to struggle with cleaning the crock pot later
- If you want to add potatoes, use baby potatoes or at least make sure the pieces are larger than two inches otherwise they will fall apart
- In the absence of a beef bouillon cube for the beef broth, use beef stock instead
- Use a cornstarch slurry to thicken the gravy if the flour didn’t do a good-enough job of it but do not make it too thick, especially if you plan on serving it au jus
- The slower the sirloin is cooked, the more flavorful and tender it will become, so avoid cooking on high heat unless you have no other choice.
- Tough cuts of beef, such as round steak will require a longer time to cook or you can turn up the heat a bit and cook on medium heat
Variation
Such a simple recipe needs a few variations here and there to keep things exciting. Try the following:
- Place some diced onions at the bottom of the crock pot before adding the sirloin steak for some extra flavor
- Play around with Worcestershire sauce, ranch seasoning, garlic powder, and minced garlic cloves to alter the flavor each time you cook
- Add some red wine for a deep, rich taste
- If you are having your sirloin steak au jus, adding some vegetables, such as carrots, bell peppers, and celery will turn it into a hearty meal

Final Word
Have you ever come across an easier way to cook sirloin steak? This is one of my top sirloin steak recipes because of the simplicity and the flavorful result in the end.
Try it out for yourself! Do not be scared to stray away from the exact measurements because it would take a lot to mess up this great recipe, so go forth and enjoy the best sirloin steak in a crock pot recipe you will ever come across!
